Online Notepad
One canvas, zero noise: type freely while your draft saves locally and your word count stays visible.
Simple interface
A single canvas keeps attention on your words. The layout stays minimal so meetings, lectures, and late-night ideas never compete with decorative chrome.
Autosave
Edits are written to local storage on a steady rhythm while you type. If a tab closes unexpectedly, your last draft is usually waiting when you return on the same device and browser.
Word count
The counter updates as you compose, which helps with essays, captions, and executive summaries where length targets matter.
Find & replace
Search the whole note, step through matches, or swap wording in bulk—handy for renaming terms or cleaning duplicated phrases.
Spellcheck
We rely on your browser’s built-in dictionary so you get familiar underlines and corrections without sending text to our servers.
Print & PDF
Use the print action to send a clean page to your printer or “Save as PDF” from the system dialog where your operating system supports it.
Overview
onlinenotepad.me offers a free, in-browser text surface for quick capture—no account wall, no upload step for everyday drafts. Autosave reduces the sting of accidental tab closures, and your note typically reappears after a refresh or a full browser restart as long as site data remains intact.
Alongside typing, you can export a plain .txt file, use find and replace for bulk edits, lean on the word meter for progress tracking, and print when you need a physical or archival copy.
How storage works
Content is persisted with the Web Storage API inside your browser profile. Nothing is transmitted to onlinenotepad.me for routine saving. Because storage is local, backups are your choice: download text files before clearing site data or migrating devices.
Browser support
Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari, and most Chromium derivatives run the editor reliably. JavaScript should stay enabled. Older browsers may lack storage quotas or spellcheck behavior shown on modern releases.
Practical tips
- Export important notes periodically—local storage is convenient, not a substitute for cloud backup.
- Use find & replace when renaming products, clients, or dates across a long scratch note.
- Pair the word counter with outlines so sections stay balanced.
- Bookmark this page if it is part of your daily workflow (for example Ctrl+D or ⌘+D).
Privacy & security
Because drafts remain on-device by default, casual notes stay off our infrastructure. Sensitive material still deserves encryption or a dedicated secrets manager—this tool focuses on speed and simplicity for general writing.
